10 best luggage brands of 2024

I travel a lot, so I am frequently asked about what luggage and accessories I prefer. No matter where you're going or how often you travel, luggage can make or break your trip and there is a wide range of checked suitcases, carry-on bags, duffels, weekenders, underseat bags, and backpacks on the market. (Honestly, I am tempted to make my own line of luggage and travel clothes, but I digress…)

There are far more options on the market now, in all price categories, but don’t be fooled by ‘pretty’ when in this travel world you need ‘sturdy’. So let’s explore…

1.Samsonite: The OG. They are always reliable, compact but spacious, easy to maneuver, durable, offer a 10-year warranty, and offer more sleek options than ever. I have multiple large and carry on hard case rollers and will always buy them. Keep in mind they have a wide range of designs (price points), so some may perform differently, but are good price points and will last - all of the hardside models are winners in my book!

2. Tumi: A worthy splurge, Tumi luggage and accessories have long been on the ‘best of’ lists. The suitcases and underseat bags are excellent in particular, with great design, expandable compartments, pockets, resistant exteriors, and smooth spinner wheels. I am a fan of the 19 Degree International Expandable 4 Wheeled Carry-On and Alpha International Expandable 4-wheeled Carry-on

3. Away: As soon as it entered the market, it was an instant hit with its design, colors, pockets, compartments, and built-in chargers. Classic Choices are The Everywhere Bag weekender and any of their hardside carry-on luggage

4. Briggs & Riley: Their hard sides are very durable and stylish, though a bit pricier. Check out the Sympatico Domestic Carry-on Expandable Spinner

5. July: Also a bit pricey, but durable and colorful. Check out the July Carry On (includes a portable charger) and the July Checked Plus Light (lightweight option)

6. Delsey: Surprisingly spacious, these bags are still lightweight, with built-in expanders at a decent price point, but a bit prone to scuffing. Check out their Chatelet Air 2.0 Carry-on and matching Chatelet Air 2.0 Medium Checked

7. Paravel: Great for organized travelers (think dual compartments, pockets, dividers, emovable laundry bags) and offering sophistication, check out the Paravel Aviator Carry-on Plus and mini backpack

8. TravelPro: These are durable, spacious, and offers a generous 100-day return policy - but FYI, some of the checked models are a bit heavy. Both the Travelpro Platinum Elite Carry-On Expandable Hardside Spinner and rolling garment bag are good products

9. BÉIS: This luggage line was created by Shay Mitchell, and offers a range of beautiful designs, and often comes with extra removable features so you can customize your packing. Both the weekender bag and 29-inch Large Check-in Roller are worth checking out.

10. Amazon Basics: Durable, lightweight, well-designed and at a a budget-friendly price tag. Their Amazon Basics Expandable Hardside Carry-On Luggage will get you far

*Other honorary brand mentions: Monos, Roam, Arlo Skye, Rimowa

**In good conscience, I can NOT recommend Calpak, which often makes people’s lists. Their weekender and small totes are cute. I know the luggage looks slick, and they are always in a TJ Maxx, but I have tried multiple hard cases that broke or got banged up from just one trip.

***There are good carry on back packs to be found on Amazon if you are traveling light, like this best seller by Coowoz
