Dubai
Dubai is a city and emirate in the United Arab Emirates known for luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture and a lively nightlife scene. Burj Khalifa, an 830m-tall tower, dominates the skyscraper-filled skyline, and artificial islands sit just offshore, along with white-sand beaches, eternal heat, Bedouin culture, austere natural beauty, bustling souks, space-age architecture, international cuisine, theme parks of almost every nature, shopping, and more. (Dubai’s successful airline – Emirates – brings in global business leaders via their extensive route network). And don’t forget to take a day trip out into the desert!
August is the hottest month, with an average high of 96°F. January is the coldest month, with an average high of 66°F. Also the city essentially shuts down for the holy month of Ramadan (dates change each year). Restaurants are closed in order to respect muslims that are fasting, and it’s illegal to eat, drink, or smoke in public during this period.
