About

Hello! My name is Carrie A. Mitchell and I have worn a lot of hats: writer, author, producer, photographer, video & podcast host, hotelier, entrepreneur, and marketing communications + content strategist. Yet these elements have stayed consistent throughout my experiences: a love of travel, exploring culture & history, staying curious, connecting with people, and storytelling – bringing me to over forty countries along the way.

My corporate career includes over 15+ years of experience in marketing, communications, public affairs, digital media, editorial and content creation, working with leading media, travel, hotel, hospitality and lifestyle brands. I founded Sonder Communications – a creative & communications boutique agency, the L’Aventure Travel blog, and Wild West Home shop & hospitality brand.  Visit my Linkedin.

My portfolio includes work with Condé Nast, Hearst, The New Yorker, Forbes, Strategic Hospitality Group, Wolfgang Puck, Moët Hennessy, Tiffany & Co, Nicole Miller, Destination Canada, Brand USA, Marriott Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels, and Rodeo Drive, where I served on the Board of Directors (+ co-lead their digital rebrand). I have also collaborated with global communications agencies through my roles, including PRCO, Zeno, Edelman, and Bullfrog + Baum, and my previous leadership roles included Head of Communications for BBH USA, Director of Public Relations & Communications at Beverly Wilshire, and more.

As a writer, photographer and host, I cover travel and culture for leading national & international publications, appearing on syndicated news segments, and hosting travel & culture focused web video and podcasts (I currently host the Suitcase Sojourn Podcast). Past contribution has included New York Magazine, Huffington Post, Hello Giggles, Travel + Leisure, Vogue, The New Yorker, Destination Canada, Discover America, BlackBook Magazine, Haute Living Magazine, and Sloane Magazine. I also wrote a children’s travel book dedicated to my niece & nephew titled “To Be We: The Adventures of Owen and Lucy” for preschool kids, and created L’Aventure Travel to share female-driven stories, podcasts and video on global travel and culture.

Raised between Alberta and Colorado, I moved to New York City in 2000 after graduating from the University of British Columbia for an internship at Seventeen Magazine. Travel and culture are the predominant focus of my work & writing, and while I have travelled to over 40 countries, and spent time residing in Vancouver, London, Shanghai & Paris for various projects, along with 10+ years in New York City,  I currently reside in Los Angeles.
